Granite Belt Granite Belt

Drink a Queensland beer? “No problem!” (As long as it’s not XXXX). A cocktail? “Too easy!” A wine made from the grapes grown in this northern state? “WHAT THE!” Yes I am serious, and don’t be surprised if wines are really bloody good.

So how does the Granite belt do it? The high elevation of the region means there is a cool climate and in fact the region has four distinct seasons similar to the southern states.

Located about a three hour drive inland from the coast, with Stanthorpe being the main township, the Granite Belt with its broken down granite soil produces excellent Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Verdelho. There are about 40 cellar doors and  as you will discover quite often that the person pouring the wine for you is the owner/winemaker.

Go be adventurous and be prepared to be surprised!
