For a first time visitor it can be daunting to pull up at a cellar door, pondering if you have made the right decision. Being the only car out the front is a bit like entering an empty restaurant. Was there a reason this place was quiet or were we just the first to arrive. I must admit we were feeling less than confident about how good the wines were going to be at Anderson and from the outside there is not much that is appealing about a large insulated white shed.
Inside oak barrels frame one corner of the room with a long tasting bar. The wine list starts with a variety of sparkling wines, both red and white and I am quite impressed by the range of different wine styles and grape varieties available for tasting. My host was terrific in talking about all the various wines and before I know it my decision to take a gamble and enter the unknown of Anderson has paid me handsomely. The cellar door manager turned our tasting of their wine into a heightened experience of the senses and one of learning, which he did with aplomb.
Great experience with some excellent wines will reward those who take the plunge and enter.
