For many people Brown Brothers were the wines you cut your teeth on and as your wine experience grew you moved on. There are still those easy drinking sweet styles, but to say that was about as good as it got would be a huge mistake. Brown Brothers is a big operation, but still a family operation and they have been able to keep that family run vibe, which can be very easily lost on a winery that gets too big.
There are so many wines to try that a chat to the staff is a good way to narrow down the wines that will interest you most. Inside the cellar door is modern and able to cope with large numbers and has some very interesting historical pieces. The winery also happens to be child friendly, with a playground and plenty of open space.
After our wine tasting we headed to the restaurant and finished off with excellent coffee while we lazed on the lawn in the super cool beanbags.
Brown Brothers have an excellent Easter festival with live music, face painting for the kids, winery tours and a small farmers’ market located in the gardens of the winery. For many years I didn’t bother visiting this winery, but since my first visit I have gone back on several occasions, making the most of all that is on offer. Make sure you try their Moscato and after everything else finish with an extremely fine dessert wine.
