Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill is a lovely setup situated on a ridge with wonderful views to their “Retreat” accommodation. The cellar door is inside a 19th century stone church and comes complete with long church pews in the foyer and a long hardwood table that sits on wine barrels. The next room is where we are greeted by a fun character who is our host for the afternoon wine tasting.
We start with a Verdelho and a Sangiovese Rosé before jumping into the reds. An extensive list of wines from four different ranges ensures there is something here for everyone. We begin with the lighter reds tasting a Sangiovese and a Tempranillo. Our host is passionate and has a bit of little schoolboy naughtiness about him making it a fun and informative experience.
We taste some of the icon wines including “The Vicar” Shiraz. Our host opens up a bottle of the Cabernet with eight years of age on it, which was stunning and gives an insight to how the current vintage will taste with some careful cellaring.
