Charles Melton

This winery’s main focus is on the Barossa’s red though for something different we began with a Sparkling wine and a Rosé, then jumped head-first into the various classy Shiraz on offer.
The cellar door has a homestead feel with the vines wrapping around the building and a verandah with tables and chairs. In front is a lawned area lined by gum trees. A basket of toys and games, like quoits, can be used on the lawn and will keep the pesky little ones occupied while you taste the wonderful wines in peace.
Inside, plonk yourself down at the large communal table where the host will come around, pour the wines and talk about each one. It’s a casual approach where you get the opportunity to chat to the people next to you and swap travel stories and recommendations about which wineries are worth visiting.
A good list of wines and a chance to taste the iconic Nine Popes as well as a Cabernet and a GSM.
