Little River

Little river Winery is only just around the corner from the main strip but you’d think you were miles away in this charming little oasis. First impression is almost a nursery-like feel. Cool and green and inviting. The entrance opens onto a large covered alfresco area, with the cellar door entrance off to the left. Walking through here had me almost imagining that it was underground – beautiful and rustic, with that dark, cool atmosphere of a hidden cave.  The service here was great, not only from the lovely lady serving me at the cellar door, but you could also hear other tables in the café laughing along with their waitress.  A smallish but diverse range of wines is available. I tend to normally steer away from unwooded Chardonnays, however I was quite impressed with the offering from Little River. Beautifully light and crisp. There is also a range of fortified and stickies available. While the sticky was a little bit light for my palate, the Muscat had some delightful complexity.  A great spot for smaller groups as Little River don’t do large bus groups, which can make you feel swamped by a sea of people when they turn up.
