The Merricks General (Wine) Store was not what I expected in that we were aiming for was a cheap and cheerful lunch. Even though the menu was on the pricier side with mains averaging between $26 – $32 the food was fantastic and it was well worth the visit and perhaps even a second or a third visit.
Three wineries are represented here, Elgee Park, Baillieu and Quealy, made by Kathleen Quealy who made T’Gallant famous. A good selection of wines are available to taste so you know exactly what to drink with your lunch. A funky vibe runs throughout with excellent service but with a smart casualness that makes you feel right at home. The two guys running us through the wines were fantastic, with a sense of mischief about them both. Some great Pinot’s many great whites and a very smart Shiraz from Bailleau surprised the hell out of us. The general store is a bit old school a bit modern but definitely a great place to spend the WHOLE! Day.

We discovered this amazing little gem on a Sunday afternoon drive. The food was fantastic and the wine choice broad. It was relaxing sitting out on the deck in the sun enjoying a couple of wines over a late lunch. We will be back :-)
