Oakover

This was my first stop in the morning, and I must admit I was a bit blurry eyed. So the beautiful aromas of freshly roasted coffee beans that wafted over me as I walked through the door, could not have been more welcoming. I could have been tempted to sit for hours enjoying a coffee, looking out over the man-made lake, if I didn’t have a long list of wineries to visit.
While the coffee roasting area is set to the side, a long timber tasting area stretches out blending into a large indoor café. Large doors open onto the alfresco area, and with the views of the lake it’s very tempting to sit outside. In fact there’s plenty of things to tempt you here. An excellent selection of wines are available, the highlight for me being the Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc. I stopped liking this blend years ago after enduring too many bottles filled with headache-inducing over-ripe fruit. However, Oakover’s offering is right on the money. Crisp and dry, exactly as it should be with a beautiful balance and finish. On a sunny day, it would be the perfect accompaniment to go with one of the best looking menus in the region. You could come here with the fussiest food people on the planet and they would have no trouble finding something great to eat here.
Allow a bit more time in your schedule when you get to Oakover, because you’ll want to stay a while.
