Penny’s Hill

Past the homestead that can be rented out and sleeps up to eight people, is a great sized outdoor area with a bocce court, a chook palace complete with rose bushes, sculptures and an undercover area. Tables and chairs sit just outside of the restaurant and cellar door. Inside artworks line the walls of the foyer and there is a distinctive outback-Aussie vibe going on with the clean lines of the corrugated iron used throughout. The cellar door has comfy couches and lots of bits and pieces to keep you interested.
Three different ranges of wines are available for tasting, they include, Penny’s Hill, The Black Chook and Mr. Riggs. The cellar door manager was very professional and with a large selection of wines to taste he was extremely helpful in narrowing down the list of wines to just the highlights that would best suit us.
We started with a couple of wines from the Black Chook range that were approachable easy drinking wines then moved to the Penny’s Hill wines trying an excellent Grenache and several good Shiraz. With the Mr. Riggs wines we tried similar wines that were in the Penny’s range and they were all excellent.
The restaurant is located to the side of the tasting room and though we did not dine, the menu made our mouths water and it won best restaurant in a winery 2013. Lighter meal options can be eaten in and around the cellar door as well as a cheese platter made from your selection.
Great place to grab your friends and spend some time eating, drinking and having some giggles.
