Warrenmang Vineyard & Resort
Our greeting to Warrenmang cellar door was not a friendly hello or even a “where are you guys visiting from”, but rather a prickly “how did you guys get in”, and from there it just went down hill.
The cellar door has a phone on the outside where you are asked to call if the cellar door is unmanned. We did as the sign instructed and were told that someone was on their way. We waited inside until our host arrived and that is when we got the unexpected first comments. After the unusual greeting I took a back seat to see if Warrenmang could bounce back, but halfway into the tasting barely a word was spoken by my host and it was up to me to instigate the conversation.
There was nothing about the wines, what is the suggested tasting order, any flavour characteristics that might shine through each of the wines, nothing!
This person truly does not understand that visiting a winery should be about having an experience, otherwise there are bottleshops where we can get our wine from.
We wine travellers visit a cellar door to learn about wine, to have a story when we open that wine back home and share with friends. We travel to find smaller producers and have passionate staff take us on a journey of discovery, and the thing about passion, is it is easily contagious.
I wish I could say that cellardoor at Warrenmang was great but, the person who served us fell way short. We did not feel welcomed and there was not an ounce of passion. I did buy a bottle of wine even though every bone in my body was saying don’t.
For these reasons it saddens me to say don’t waste your time visiting. There are other wineries in the region that are more welcoming and would love nothing more for the chance to showcase their wines to you.
Please note that this review is for the cellar door only. We did not visit any other part of Warrenmang.
