Wirra Wirra

The entrance to this winery is flanked by the largest post and rail fence I have seen (made by a giant lumberjack I am sure). The big things don’t stop there. In the visitor car park a giant Wirra Wirra bottle several story’s high is made from thousands of wine corks. To the left a sculpture over the vineyard of a man rowing his boat seems to float above the vines.
Inside we are greeted by a lovely girl who takes us through the range of wines and who was very good at picking some highlights along the way in a fairly large list. We start with a very good Riesling and before we know it we a classy Catapult Shiraz and Grenache is being poured into our glass.
Many would perhaps think that they know all about the Wirra Wirra wines but there are several different ranges available to taste including the Esperanza Range that has an excellent Monastrell and a Tempranillo. There are some wonderful flagship wines and we finished off our tasting with a Moscato with a splash of Bombay gin added to it for a nice summer drink. It was a nice touch by Wirra Wirra to finish showcasing how one of their wines can be used in a different way and went beyond what was expected, customer service and heightened experience!
