Throw out all your ideas out the window on how you imagine a cellar door should be, because this is nothing like you have ever seen before. It’s a bit like the cool grungy laneways of a big city meets the countryside. With an eclectic mix of bits and pieces, you are never sure where to look or what you will find inside the tasting room of Alpha Box & Dice.
The two characters we met kept this theme going which for us was a breath of fresh air. Were they any better than the many cellar doors we visited? Not better and definitely not worst but there is a different vibe running through here and it shows up in their wonderful wines. If you are on the hunt for something different to try in wine then this is the place for you. A smaller list of tasting wines with a focus on reds has some interesting blends.
We begin with a fantastic Dolcetto an Italian red grape variety that you won’t see much of around and is worth a visit just to try this. We try a Grenache/Shiraz/Tempranillo and the Mistress a red blend of Touriga Nacional/Tinta Negra Molle/Cabernet Sauvignon an interesting wine that is a whole lot easier on the palate than to try and get the words to roll off the tongue. We finished with the Kit & Kaboodle another interesting red blend.
If you are looking for some interesting reds and a cellar door that marches to the sound of its own drum the Alpha Box & Dice is the place for you.

It’s quirky, its fun and its full of character. Inside is full of unusual and interesting things. Not everything I tried was to my taste, but that’s ok it could be yours. There was good banter between are group and the staff and plenty I did like. I would recommend for people to check it out for a cellar door with a difference.
