Described as a “taste of Italy’ in the Swan Valley, you can see the Italian influence reflected, in not only the wines but by the passion exuded by owners Michael and Karen. Their wines are split into two labels, the Ambrook and the Amonini, the latter representing their premium offerings.
The Amonini Sangiovese was my pick, although it really needed some food to complement it. The Rosso D’amore was a mouthful of excellent complexity of fruit and the right balance of acidity. Their Vino D’oro dessert wine is something so truly luscious I would consider purchasing obscene quantities of it.
Although they don’t serve substantial food here, they have a cheese platter that is hard to beat and well stocked with welcoming wedges of cheese, grapes, raisins, bread, crackers and olive tapenade. You’ll be tempted to spend all afternoon lazing under the alfresco area adorned with grapevines and with a train station only a few kilometers away, hell you could do just that.
